Itinerary Description by Day
Day 1: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut
- Transfer from your hotel/lodge in Moshi to arrive at Marangu gate for performing registration formalities
- Start ascending the mountain with guides, porters, and cooks through the tropical rainforest of coffee and maize plantations
- Continue with the trail to reach Mandara Hut which provides accommodations like dining halls and toilets
- Have dinner and overnight stay at Mandara hut
Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
- Climb through the rainforest for first stunning views of Kibo and Mawenzi
- Proceed into the moorland zone which will lead you to Horombo Hut, where you will arrive in the afternoon
- Have dinner and overnight stay at the Horombo Hut
Day 3: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut
- Climb through the alpine desert into the saddle between Kibo and Mawenzi peaks
- The trail leads to Kibo Hut to arrive in the mid-day
- Take the rest of the day of resting and gaining energy for the final summit day which is ahead of us tomorrow
- It’s advised to have an early sleep by around 19:00hrs for mid-night ascent preparation
Day 4: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak to Horombo Hut
- Wake up around 23:00 for having a hot breakfast with biscuits. Also, add more warm clothes and headlamps
- Leave the camp and start summiting by midnight into the glacial zone
- The path leads to Gilman’s point (5681 m) after a 6-hour walk to arrive at sunrise
- Take another 1:30 hrs to Uhuru Peak (5895 m) the roof of Africa
- Have time for photographs and a little rest while at the summit
- After resting for a while, start the descending to finally arrive at Horombo hut
- Have dinner and overnight stay at Horombo Hut
Day 5: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate
- Leave from the moorland environment, heading towards Mandara Hut for some rest
- Proceed with the trail to reach the final destination at Marangu gate
- Upon arrival, show appreciation to the team by tipping guides, porters, and cooks
- Get awarded with certificates whereby golden certificates are given to hikers who reached Uhuru peak and green certificates for Gilman’s point hikers
- Drive back to Moshi for a hot shower and many celebrations
